The Story and People Behind Post Zinger
Post Zinger evolved from a software product called Castlock that was originally developed by Kris Smith, a subject matter expert on RSS technology and podcast production.
As a natural innovator and metrics hound, Kris was often frustrated by the lack of tools providing insight to the likes of RSS subscriptions, podcast downloads, time of day listeners were tuning in, etc. He also found that common blog platforms lacked the level of RSS feed management he would expect an enterprise or professional podcaster would eventually require.
Kris began partnering on client podcast projects with Room 214 in 2005, and introduced his first version of Castlock to the co-founders, James Clark and Jason Cormier, the following year. James and Jason had been experimenting with RSS and reputation management software development under a company separately spun from Room 214, called RSSready.
RSSready eventually acquired rights to the original code - and Room 214 contributed to a major upgrade, accompanied by an entire rewrite, in the summer of 2007. The evolution of the product, in addition to its newfound capabilities as a powerful social media platform set the stage for a re-branding effort. By February of 2008, Post Zinger was born. .
